Eight years ago, after my cancer diagnosis, I began a journey that reshaped how I see health, not just through food, fitness, or supplements, but through the often-overlooked foundation of it all: our nervous system.

In recent genetic testing and wellness conversations, one message keeps coming up again and again. The state of your nervous system sets the stage for everything else in your body. If your body doesn’t feel safe, calm, and supported, even the healthiest food or supplements won’t work as they should.

Why a Regulated Nervous System Comes First

When you live in a state of stress, anxiety, or constant overwhelm, your body interprets that as danger. The nervous system switches into “fight or flight” mode to protect you, diverting energy away from digestion, repair, and immunity. That means:

  • You might eat the most organic, nutrient-rich food, but your body can’t properly digest or absorb it.

  • You might take the best supplements, but your body isn’t ready to receive their benefits.

  • You can biohack endlessly, but if your body doesn’t feel safe, the results will never be optimal.

Your nervous system must trust that you are safe before it can do the deep healing work it’s designed for. It’s like preparing for a party. You wouldn’t host guests without cleaning the space, setting the table, and cooking the food. The same goes for your body. You must create an environment of safety before it can welcome all the incredible nourishment you’re offering it.

Creating an Environment of Calm and Safety
